Progress at Ebbw Vale Terrace, Coventry

The Ebbw Vale development has been constructed with the end user at the forefront of our decision making.  In partnership we have created a safe, technologically advanced space allowing the residents to live independently, whilst encouraging social interaction.

The building comprises of 30 affordable, one-bedroom apartments for the over 55’s. The property also benefits from a communal kitchen and seating area where events will be held for the residents on a weekly basis, allowing for them to socialise outside of their individual apartments. The landscaped external areas will allow the residents access to outdoor space, to enjoy the view over Quinton Park.

Each, one-bedroom apartment is equipped with an Appello System, helping to create safer, happier and enriched communities through technology, people and innovation allowing the new residents to live independent and fulfilled lives. The system gives residents simple touch screen access, whilst also offering face-to-face interaction with both staff and other residents, helping to reduce social isolation and aid independence. The system also offers an ‘I’m ok’ feature, putting the residents in control of the day-to-day support they receive. Staff can see who requires a visit and will prioritise accordingly.

The building will be accessed by a single entrance, with the Appello System aiding entry with both face recognition and a fob system. This will allow the residents to gain access with ease, whilst also increasing the level of security.

In addition, AOV windows have also been installed. They are the latest in smoke safety, the Automatic Opening Ventilation Window will help to clear lobbies, landings and corridors in the event of fire. These windows are fitted with a smart actuator which allows for quick automatic responsiveness to a fire enabling clear passage of the building for the occupants. Regulating the release of smoke from a building will allow time for the residents to safely evacuate the property safely.

Finally, the hallways throughout the building have been painted in ‘Dementia Friendly Colours’. With each floor having a different colour.  Following research into colour therapy for dementia care we established that Orange is associated with sociability and happiness and Green offers a calming and tranquil environment for the residents. Future proofing the building for those with varying needs and requirements.

We are proud of our commitments to be delivering a technically advanced and modern way of living, whilst ensuring we are meeting if not exceeding the requirements of Part B of the building regulations.
