Overview

  • Refurbishment & Reconfiguration of the Endoscopy Facility

Description

The works consisted of the complete refurbishment of the floor ward area forming a new Endoscopy facility at Ross Community Hospital. The upgrade works included demolition, structural reconfiguration and installation of new partitions, upgrading and altering mechanical and electrical installations ceiling, wall and floor finishes, all to current Healthcare Standards.

The surrounding facilities were maintained in occupation during the works, including the adjacent physiotherapy department and therefore close co-ordination and communication with the hospital teams were fundamental to the project’s success.

As with all projects of this nature, extensive knowledge of both the mechanical and electrical installations, nurse call, staff panic, fire alarm, data, electric distribution and ventilation were vitally important with the area benefiting from the installation of a new air conditioning unit and associated works. Infection control, shut off permits, traffic management, patient confidentiality, noise, dust and access requirements all formed part of the project delivery requirements, with an extremely high level of detail and pro-active management, completing the works within a 12 week period.

Due to the pro-active nature of the management team, further works were instructed around the existing ‘live’ hospital to further upgrade facilities, whilst the main contract works were ongoing. Access and traffic management was restricted due to the normal constraints of working within a ‘live’ hospital, with the building works being completed with the minimum disruption and inconvenience caused to the hospital staff and users.

Structural improvement works were undertaken following on-site investigation during the contract period, with steel beams being installed to support the reinforced concrete floor above. The project was completed on time and to a high level of quality, with all works being fully co-ordinated and incorporated to the Client’s existing requirements.
