Last week, two of our employees successfully completed their Mental First Aid course from the reputable MHFA England. Mental health is an important topic within the construction industry especially in light of last week’s World Suicide Prevention Day.
Sadly, statistics reveal:
- Four in five suicides are committed by men, with suicide being the leading cause of death for men under 35.
- 73% of the UK’s 2.1 million construction workers have been affected by mental illness.
- Over the past decade, 7,000 individuals in the industry have taken their own lives.
At Harpers, we understand the importance of mental health and are committed to training our workforce to foster an open environment where those struggling feel they can vocalise their worries and be listened to.
We aim to continue training our workforce on mental health with the goal of supporting individuals who may be struggling.
