Description

We were appointed as the main contractor on the design and build of 71 dwellings on Beattie Avenue and Hunderton Road in Hereford. Working with Connexus on the regeneration project saw the 41 pre-fabricated bungalows which have lasted for over 60 years, longer than originally thought, be demolished and replaced with 71 dwellings.

The development has been split into two phases and includes a mix of bungalows and houses for shared ownership, affordable rent, social rent and rent to buy tenure. Works commenced in early 2020 with the demolition of bungalows taking place to allow for groundworks and sub-structures to be carried out.

Throughout the development we ensured that the existing bus route through Beattie Avenue was maintained, allowing for public services to remain accessible to local residents.

At the end of March 2020, it was announced by the government that strict lockdown measures were to be implemented with immediate effect. Due to this and in compliance with government guidelines we made the decision to temporarily close the site as the period of lockdown was uncertain. After four weeks and following strict government guidelines, works recommenced with social distancing and covid-19 protection measures in place.

In May 2020 construction resumed. We utilised both traditional and modern methods of construction to complete the superstructures. Upon installation of windows and the completion of roofs the properties became watertight allowing us to commence first fixing works.

The redesign of the area meant that the existing road through Beattie Avenue was to be realigned in order to service the new layout.

Due to the existing bungalows in phase two being occupied, we have allowed for a 4 week ‘lag’ between the completion of phase one and the commencement of phase two. Within these 4 weeks, the residents will be moving from their old properties into the houses within phase 1.

Despite the inactivity on site throughout the lockdown, the development team worked tirelessly to push the job over the finishing line within the contract programme. We are proud to have once again been able to work with Connexus to produce high quality homes.
